This movement finds in sports practice the material support to promote and establish a new culture or modern corporalethos, christian, masculine and muscular. Thegentleman-amateurEnglish man embodies the image of the new bourgeoisethosthat rapidly expands through English society and its colonies, and into the rest of the secular world, shaping the way in which modern states conceive the body and body education. This work explores the foundation of this discursive process, its link with the Young Men's Christian Association, and its arrival in the Waldensian colonies of Uruguay.

- Item¿Dónde va el romboide?: Conocimientos geométricos que emergen a partir del uso del tangram(2019) BORCH, Tatiana Mendoza von der; SEVILLA, David BlockIn this article we analyze the understanding of geometrical figures that elementary school students put into practice when forming configurations with the tangram parts. We draw data from classroom observation of eighteen lessons in a fifth-grade class of a public elementary school located in Mexico City. We explain how this activity allows students to display numerous hypotheses, test their validity and re-elaborate them. We show how within this process, interaction among peers increases and enriches their involvement in the academic task. We conclude that the text supports the idea that learning geometrical figures necessarily implies hands-on manipulation of a variety of figures, such as those offered by the tangram. These characteristics allow students to contrast figures and therefore become aware of the properties of each one.

- ItemEducadores e educadoras: gritem contra o racismo(2019) FRANCO, Beatriz PupinThe book “Negritude, Cinema and Education: Paths to the implementation of Law 10.639/2003”, vol. 1, assumes that educators sensitive to the implementation of the aforementioned law can build in classrooms a space/time for debates and reflections on this theme, which is so urgent in the Brazilian reality; the collection also emphasizes how black students and students are made invisible at school, the material serves as a manual in which the films and proposals for learning situations in each of the articles are presented.

- ItemEnsino técnico em música no estado de São Paulo: uma década de educação pública na Escola Técnica Estadual “Jacinto Ferreira de Sá”(2019) CONSTANTINO, PauloThe text reports the course of a decade (2007-2017)of the foundation of technical courses in the music area at the State Technical School Jacinto Ferreira de Sá (Etec)in Ourinhos, São Paulo, Brazil, pioneer in this offer in vocational education in São Paulo. I thus circumscribe this text to the scope of the history of institutions and the formal spaces of public vocational education as a small contribution to the analysis of public policies and the dimensions in the period, whose pertinence emerges in the demarcation of a decade of music in national basiceducation, through Federal Law 11769/2008 and its subsequent modifications.
- ItemEstética da Música(2019) OLIVEIRA, André Araújo deEnrico Fubini, in Aesthetics of Music, views musical activity from a historical perspective, presenting the reader with the transformations in musical making and feeling over the centuries. Thus, the main assumption made by the author in question is that the way we feel and make music has changed throughout history (FUBINI, 2015, p.16-17). After all, for a long period, the art of sounds was conceived as a minor art, seen as knowledge that was apparently not very instructive or even devoid of any educational use (FUBINI, 2015, p.13-14). Undoubtedly, such contempt was particularly due to the observation of the specificity inherent to the musical code (FUBINI, 2015, p.15).
- ItemEstéticas das resistências e o documentário: Diário de Exus(2019) SOBRINHO, Gilberto AlexandreFrom 2013 to 2016, three documentary projects were developed under my direction, in the metropolitan region of Campinas-SP, which resulted in the “Trilogia Afro-Campineira”. There are three short films focused on protagonists of cultural, religious and artistic processes, all defenders of manifestations of African matrixes and their potent hybridisms. The films are Diário de Exus (2015), The Dance of Friendship, Stories of Urucungos, Puítas and Quijengues (2016) and The Woman from Casa do Arco-Íris (2017/2018). All the films had funding sources such as FAEPEX/UNICAMP, FICC and the São Paulo State Short Film Stimulus Award and had a network of partners, from the university (UNICAMP) and from the communities and cultural points involved. In films, what I call the “aesthetics of resistance” are developed, prioritizing Afro-diasporic narratives, in a creative process in which aesthetics and politics converge. Aesthetically, it is about highlighting the convergence and the dispute of the observational, participative, poetic and performative modes of documentary making, aimed at subjects carrying Afro-centered cultural codes. Politically, the role of culture and religion in the affirmation and construction of black identity in Brazil is highlighted. This text documents the process of making the first short film, Diário de Exus.
- Item“Gostaria de ouvir todas as histórias que puder. Todas.” - Entrevista com o Professor Dr. José Carlos Sebe Meihy(2018) RIBEIRO, Suzana Lopes Salgado; KAMENSKY, Andrea Paula dos Santos OliveiraTalking about Oral History in my life, after more than 50 years of school experience, is a bit of reflecting on the professional essence. In its happiest realization I would say that, before being an oralist, I am a teacher; before becoming a teacher, I am a citizen and, I believe that is where I open the set of answers that address the question of passion.
- ItemGuardar para não perder: a constituição dos acervos dos Centros de Memória da Educação Física nas universidades federais brasileiras(2018) MECEBO, Christiane Garcia; GOELLNER, Silvana VilodreThis article analyzes how the process of constitution of collections of ten memory centers of physical education in Brazilian federal universities took place. Its theoretical anchorage falls on Cultural History and for the production of sources an exploratory research was undertaken, visits were made and 36 Oral History interviews were produced. We can see that there is a predominance of textual and iconographic document supports. In half of CMs, the collection consists only of materials linked to its headquarters. Finally, we observe that there is the effort of people, groups and institutions that, in order to avoid loss, have used different strategies to gather, organize, conserve and give access to a documentary set that integrates the Physical Education heritage and related areas.
- ItemInfluencias de la YMCA en la cultura institucional del Instituto Nacional de Educación Física (INEF) Gral. Belgrano. Argentina, 1939-1967(2018) AISENSTEIN, Angela; ELIAS, LeandroThis paper traces YMCA’s influence on the school culture of INEF Gen. Belgrano, an institution created in 1939 as a male boarding school to educate PE teacher for the country. It identifies a set of theories, practices, discourses, regulatory decisions and moral propositions that integrated power relations and aimed to shape the bodies of the future Argentinian leaders of physical culture. It demonstrates that YMCA’s sporting and recreational experiences integrated the institutional framework as part of the educational apparatus, in dialogue with contributions from New Education and military tradition. It recognizes its participation on an international network of institutions associated to Physical Education.
- ItemLa actividad física de la comunidad rural: la YMCA en México durante la década de los años 20(2018) MOCTEZUMA, Lucia MartínezAfter the revolutionary movement of 1910 in Mexico, the Ministry of Public Education put into practice a series of educational projects oriented to the needs of the rural population. The Cultural Missions managed to bring together the whole community around a series of activities that, through the school, aimed at the physical and cultural development of children, women and men, with the holding of festivals and sporting events in which they combined dancing and singing with the practice of soccer, basketball, volleyball and baseball. The objective of this work is to account for these novel practices that show the implementation of an American model of physical development in the Mexican school, the Young Men's Christian Association YMCA, in which new strategies are implemented to integrate the rural community based on festive and sports proposals that also pointed to a discipline and administration of free time.
