- ItemEnxada versus Caneta: educação como prerrogativa do urbano no imaginário de jovens rurais(2009) MENEZES, Isabela Gonçalves deThis article is a result of a descriptive and literature research based on the fieldwork of Carneiro (1998), about the "rurbano" ideal of young people from rural two areas of the southern and southeastern of Brazil, compared to the imaginary of Fabiano, character in the novel Barren Lives of Graciliano Ramos (2006). As Fabian, although wanting education, the young people perceive it as a prerogative of the urban world, while the rural areas are seen as a place of work, having to choose between leaving the countryside to attend school and universities or stay, if you do not have the aptitude to study (CARNEIRO, 1998). It discusses the phenomenon of rural exodus as a result of the search of education and quality of life, and, on the other hand, the recent public politics created to encourage his permanence in the field, and the new configurations of urban and rural areas. It emphasizes that rural development should be promoted as a rural citizen´s right, who should have access to education in their area of origin, and not to continue to choose between rural work or education. It therefore seeks to contribute to the theoretical debate about the access to education in the space-time as a right of citizens and how the politic of encouraging the establishment and maintenance of people in the field is presented: not as a right of rural citizens, but as an alternative to the problems caused by the swelling of the big cities and the urban unemployment.

- ItemQuestões sobre ps fins e sobre os métodos de pesquisa em educação(2007) ANDRÉ, MarliThe aim of this text is to discuss methodological and epistemological questions related to research in Education. Initially, it is argued that there is general interest from researchers in the area of Education to find criteria to evaluate the quality of research in Education. The concern arises from the large increase of scientific production over the last twenty years, as well as many changes in themes, approaches, methodologies and contexts of research. Some questions are highlighted from those which refer to the nature of produced knowledge to the criteria used to judge research and the presuppositions of quantitative and qualitative methods. This work concludes by showing the precarious conditions of producing scientific work for students, as well as teaching staff and enumerates some challenges to be faced.
- ItemSubjectividade e bem-estar das crianças: (in)visibilidade e voz(2008) FERREIRA, Manuela; SARMENTO, Manuel JacintoThe political and normative production about children social welfare, especially the one produced in the European Union, is usually based on methodological references that use values and ideas unproblematically taken. These references are related to the scientific research that supports public policies, reproducing conceptions that are not problematized about the referential terms used, having consequences on the mobilized methodological apparatus. These studies are generally supported by statistics that adds to its extensive nature a very short capacity of dealing with differences and dissimilarities between children. Moreover, these methodologies are usually based on epistemological proceedings that analyses the children from points of view focused on adults or ethnicity. The questions about children alterity, cultural diversity and even social dissimilarity find weak expression on the investigative production in several reports, especially the ones produced in important international and European organizations. At the same time, subjects like action and childhood cultures are hardly seen in studies about welfare. From an alternative perspective, we tried to set in this article the theoric, epistemological and methodological basis that allow, at the children welfare analyses, the crossing of structural indicators and subjectivity dimensions and also the crossing of social factors and comprehension and action of children as concrete social actors.
