Abstract
This paper analyzes the intermedial relations between the film “Coco”, translated to Portuguese as “Viva – A Vida é Uma Festa”, and the book derived from the film due to its commercial success. In these relations, our analytical approach involves the treatment of Mexican culture in the process of artistic meaning-making, given that the film’s leitmotiv is the “Día de Los Muertos”. Based on Intermediality Studies (CLÜVER, 2006; MÜLLER, 2012; RAJEWSKY, 2012a, 2012b), the analysis contemplates the scenes on the film and the literary text. We focus mainly on the approach proposed by Rajewski (2012), characterized by its synchronous direction and the understanding of intermediality as a category used for a concrete analysis of texts, such as the film “Coco” and its process of media transposition. The analysis focused on the process of thematic meaning-making during the adaptation from the screen to the book in their differences and similarities.
