    A representação dos corpos redondos no ensino da geometria

    This article has its origin in the work of the Research Group on the Teaching of Geometry at IREM de Montpellier. This team is coordinated by Professor Gérard AUDIBERT and composed of about fifteen professors involved in research in Didactics of Mathematics. A number of experiments carried out by this group found that the teaching and learning of Euclidean and spatial geometry are inseparable from drawing.

    Intuição, experiência e teoria geométrica

    This article aims at analysing, from a didactic point of view, the relationship between geometry and physical world viewed by students. Its main focus consists in analysing the importance of the use of drawings, objects and mental images as didactic resources which are auxiliary and representative of the construction process of the space and plain geometrical concepts. The analysis of these resouces is followed by the identification of existence of a possible correlation between these elementsand the intuitive, experimental and theoretical aspects of geometrical knowledge. The description presented here is based on the relation on some epistemological questions and a series of experiments carried out in the classroom with students taking the latesd grades of the elementary school. The goal of the survey was to delineate obstacles inherent in the process of teaching and learning geometry

    Materiais didáticos para o ensino da matemática no final do século XIX: um retorno à obra de Abílio César Borges

    This article deals with the problem of the meanings attributed to didactic materials for the teaching of elementary mathematics, in the Brazilian context of the last years of the 19th century. More specifically, it analyzes the so-called multiple school apparatus, a set of resources, created and disseminated by the educator Abílio César Borges, the Baron of Macaúbas. The results indicate that in the context of the expansion of popular education in Brazil, the diffusion of this apparatus took place in private colleges. He expressed an appropriation of the intuitive method, aiming at materializing abstract aspects of school mathematics. The materiality of the didactic resource symbolized the modernization of the schooling of the time considered.
