Neste artigo apresentam-se os resultados de uma dissertação de mestrado na qual se objetivou investigar as políticas de acesso e as ações afirmativas implementadas pela Universidade Federal da Fronteira Sul. A UFFS foi criada com o propósito de expandir e interiorizar o ensino superior público e se insere a um conjunto de políticas públicas que visam combater a privatização e o elitismo na educação superior. O estudo concentrou-se na análise dos dados dos 2.123 estudantes que ingressaram nos cursos de graduação da Instituição em 2012. A pesquisa revelou que a política de acesso implantada pela UFFS foi além da “Lei das Cotas” e trouxe para a universidade pública os filhos dos trabalhadores do campo e da cidade, mulheres (63,5%), egressos do ensino médio público (97,4%), oriundos de pais com baixa escolaridade e com uma renda familiar média de até três salários mínimos (69,3%).
In this article it is presented the results of a master dissertation in which the objective was to investigate the access policies and the affirmative actions taken by the Federal University of the Southern Border. UFFS was created with the purpose of expanding and internalizing the public higher education and it is part of a set of public policies that aim to combat the privatization and the elitism of the hi-gher education. The study focused on the analysis of the data from the 2,123 students who entered in the institution’s graduation programs in 2012. The survey revealed that the access policy implanted by UFFS went farther than “the Quotas Law” and brought to the public university workers’ children from the country and the city, wo-men (63.5%); public high school graduates (97.4%); those whose parents have low education and an average family income of up to three minimum salaries (69.3%).
