Corpos educados, perigos controlados: as contribuições da ginástica escolar para a remodelação urbana carioca

Abstract

O artigo dialoga com outros estudos em História da Educação que têm procurado investigar o entrelaçamento dos saberes e práticas educacionais com as iniciativas de reforma urbana implementadas a partir da virada do século XIX para o XX. Nessa medida, tendo como fonte principal uma obra que foi redigida por Arthur Higgins, Compendio de ginástica e jogos escolares, publicada no final do século XIX, problematiza as interferências dos debates educacionais no ambiente urbano da cidade do Rio de Janeiro. O foco recaiu sobre as “contribuições” que a ginástica escolar prestaria para a organização das formas de a população interagir com a lógica almejada para a capital durante os anos Pereira Passos (1902-1906).The article establishes dialogues with other studies in History of Edu-cation that have been trying to peer the interweaving of knowledge and educa-tional practices with urban reform initiatives implemented since the turn of the nineteenth to the twentieth. In this sense, based on analysis of one book that was written by Arthur Higgins, Compendio de ginástica e jogos escolares, that was published in the late nineteenth century, this study problematizes the interferences of educational debates in the urban environment. The focus was directed on the “contributions” that gymnastics school would provide for the organization of the forms of the population interact with logic required by the capital during the Pe-reira Passos administration (1902-1906)
