O objetivo do estudo foi mapear ideias sobre educação e cultura defendidas por Anísio Teixeira e divulgadas no jornal A Penna, em Caetité, BA, no início do século XX. Tomou-se o impresso como fonte de busca e objeto de investigação, para uma pesquisa histórica e fundamentada ‒ teórica e metodologicamente ‒ na cultura escrita e na história da educação. Os resultados evidenciaram como Teixeira, desde a infância, já se destacava na escola e nos textos publicados no impresso O Bem-ti-vi, do qual era um dos redatores. No jornal A Penna, identificaram-se, ainda, as mudanças ocorridas com o educador, que passou de defensor da estreita relação entre a Igreja Católica e a escola no processo educativo a opositor do pragmatismo dos jesuítas em detrimento do pragmatismo liberal do filósofo John Dewey.
This study aimed to map ideas about education and culture defended by Anísio Teixeira that were published in the newspaper A Penna, in Caetité – State of Bahia, in the first decades of the 20th century. We take the printed matter as one of the main sources of research and, also, as an object of investigation, conditions that characterize the research as historical and grounded, theoretically and methodologically, in the written culture and in the history of education. The research results showed how Anísio, since childhood, already stood out in school and in writing texts for publication in the printed O Bem-ti-vi, in which he was one of the editors. In the newspaper A Penna, it was also possible to identify the changes that occurred with the educator, who went from being a defender of the close relationship between the Catholic Church and the school in the educational process to opposing the pragmatism of the Jesuits to the detriment of the liberal pragmatism of the North American philosopher John Dewey.
