Abstract
This essay thinks education both in a broad sense, as a human act that arti-culates the experiences of past generations with the present generation, and in a more specific sense, as a State policy that, through the educational institution, takes effect of teaching and learning processes to younger generations together to achieve goals that are linked to politicies that the same State represents. The issue of evaluation, in turn, is thought from that double look about education: in its broadest challenge to contribute to build a common human world and in their school form that the objective is the formation of new generations under the assumptions of equality, freedom and the construction of autonomy. Finally, based on a distinction between curriculum and pedagogy, it proposes two dimensions of evaluation: a concerning of the verification of the degree of learning, competing to instances linked to the political authorities, and another regarding the monitoring of the learning process, which is for the edu-cator and school.
