- ItemEditorial: Explorando o conhecimento matemático através das conexões polissêmicas da etnomatemática(2017) OREY, Daniel Clark; ROSA, MiltonAs editors, we would like to thank all of the authors for accepting the invitation to write for the dossier entitled Exploring Mathematical Knowledge through Polysemic Connections of Ethnomathematics. As the readerscan see, this project is sponsored by the Revista ETD: Educação Temática Digital, Faculdade de Educação, Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP). We are extremely grateful for the support and encouragementof the editors and faculty at UNICAMP for the development of this project as well. The 15 authors of this dossierwere invited to discuss their ideas, perspectives, and share their research on the polysemic connections of ethnomathematics. The 08 articlespresented here represent 04 (four) countries: Brazil, Greece, South Africa, and the United States of America.
- ItemPolysemic interactions of etnomathematics: an overview(2017) ROSA, Milton; OREY, Daniel ClarkLocal knowledge interrelationships related to assorted academic knowledge areas are important to enable a more precise understanding about a particular study field in relation to diverse forms of mathematics. Here, in this article, interrelations are addressed, especially wherever one needs to understand specific concepts acquired in academic knowledge broadly-based on science and mathematics; which may be supported by research fields called ethnoscience or ethnomathematics. This theoretical article essentially considers the emergence of important terminologies connected to certain research areas referred as ethno-x. By means of a bibliographic study, the central theme of ethno-x presents us with an attempt to understand polysemical relations that emphasize the ethnoin the sciences. The main goal in this discussion is to further advance research and understanding in relation to an ethnomathematics research program and its polysemic relation with other knowledge fields.
- ItemTendencias atuais de etnomatemática como um programarumo a ação pedagógica(2005) ROSA, Milton; OREY, Daniel ClarkMost investigations in ethnomathematics have demonstrated that some cultural forms of mathematics exist that are different from dominant forms of mathematics. The majority of current research in ethnomathematics is directed towards ethnographic and anthropological studies of cultural groups. In the current context, there is a great necessity for ethnomathematics-based programs to identify and seek teaching-learning practices directed towards pedagogical action. The great challenge for researchers in ethnomathematics is to further elaborate studies and pedagogical practices that are in accordance with the hilosophicaltheoretical objectives of this program.
