Abstract

The present article makes a reflection on the authenticity of the letters written by Americo Vespucio on the occasion of his voyages to America. It analyses the Portuguese translation of these letters, dealing with the existent contemporaneous bibliography about the thematic concerned. Yet, it contextualizes historically Vespucio's life and voyages, considering them with the general theme exposedEste artículo reflexiona sobre la autenticidad de las cartas escritas por Américo Vespucci con motivo de sus viajes a América. Analisa a tradução portuguesa de suas cartas, dialogando com a bibliografia contemporânea existente sobre a temática, e ainda contextualiza historicamente a vida de Vespúcio e suas viagens.
