    Inteligência competitiva em unidades de informaçãoética e gestão

    The information professional has been involved with competitive intelligence, in an automatic fashion, since his first work-related experiences. However, as he catches up with technological advances, he is urged to manage tasks and roles, service and products in support of both competitive intelligence – in its productive form – and the integrating of each element into the information system in which he finds himself, as he performs his tasks on an ethical basis, in private-and public-sector management alike. This essay aims at discussing the applicability of competitive intelligence in information units and, in its concluding remarks, it shows how the librarian is able to overcome challenges, without sacrificing ethics or neglecting his characteristic responsibilites.

    Normas técnicas e comunicação científica: enfoque no meio acadêmico

    Standards are applied for many different reasons. The goals of standardization are to establish standards of various kinds and improving efficiency on products and services. The present work was undertaken to present a standardization inserted in scientific communication (in the Brazilian academic context) focusing mostly on the documentation standards role. Concepts are introduced in this work, namely science communication, standardization, technical standards, use of academic documentation standards. The present work reinforces that the University will use the standards as a tool to elaborate and present its scientific production.
