    Enxada versus Caneta: educação como prerrogativa do urbano no imaginário de jovens rurais

    This article is a result of a descriptive and literature research based on the fieldwork of Carneiro (1998), about the "rurbano" ideal of young people from rural two areas of the southern and southeastern of Brazil, compared to the imaginary of Fabiano, character in the novel Barren Lives of Graciliano Ramos (2006). As Fabian, although wanting education, the young people perceive it as a prerogative of the urban world, while the rural areas are seen as a place of work, having to choose between leaving the countryside to attend school and universities or stay, if you do not have the aptitude to study (CARNEIRO, 1998). It discusses the phenomenon of rural exodus as a result of the search of education and quality of life, and, on the other hand, the recent public politics created to encourage his permanence in the field, and the new configurations of urban and rural areas. It emphasizes that rural development should be promoted as a rural citizen´s right, who should have access to education in their area of origin, and not to continue to choose between rural work or education. It therefore seeks to contribute to the theoretical debate about the access to education in the space-time as a right of citizens and how the politic of encouraging the establishment and maintenance of people in the field is presented: not as a right of rural citizens, but as an alternative to the problems caused by the swelling of the big cities and the urban unemployment.
