    On November 17, 1918, professor Júlio César de Mello e Souza (1895-1974) records on the first page of his notebook: “Archivo aims to conserve many papers, letters, portraits, cards, etc. that cannot be in the Diary. It will therefore be a magnificent and indispensable helper. Any and all documents in my history will be kept in the Archive from now on.”

    Why did the Brazilian Society of Mathematics Education (SBEM) choose May 6, just like the Municipal Governments of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo did, as the "National Mathematics Day?" Because it is the birth day of Julio César de Mello e Souza, but known by his pseudonym, Malba Tahan. He wrote more than 120 works, among them, "The Man who calculated", which, to this day, enchants everyone who reads it. an understandable, fabulous, picturesque, fun, scandalous Mathematics...
