The advance of Science and Industry created by Homo Sapiens extracts natural resources, generates products, services and comforts, but makes the environmental quality its great victim, due to the contaminating residues thrown into the air, water, soil and subsoil, placing in I risk all forms of life, including that of Homo himself. The objective of this article, through a brief history, is to approach the reflections of Science and Industry in Brazil on social and urban life and on the natural environment; and the consequences of business advancement and economic mentality in the rural environment. The text notes that there is no way to advance in the Brazilian democratic process or in the construction of citizenship, without including the issues addressed in educational debates, in the awareness of pre-university educators and in the formation of youth in higher education. It concludes by stating that national sovereignty requires as a condition the improvement of the entire educational system.
