    It has been noticed, in different countries, including Brazil, an increasing interest regarding the provision for the educational and psychological needs of students who have high potential. However, several obstacles have intervened in the implementation of programs and services for this group. Therefore, this article discusses the importance of investing in the education of the gifted and presents the main barriers to the development of educational practices for students with high potential. Furthermore, this paper analyzes the scenario of the gifted education in Brazil and examines the international trends concerning the provision for this group of students.
