    Reflexões sobre o perfil e expectativas dos participantes do Prolibras no Estado do Paraná

    This is a brief article about the Prolibras - the National Certification Exam for Proficiency in Brazilian Sign Language (LIBRAS) and Certification Exam for Proficiency in Libras-Portuguese Translation and Interpretation. This exam has been offered since 2006 by the Brazilian Ministry of Education, in a partnership with INEP (the Brazilian Institute for Educational Research) and the Federal University of Santa Catarina State. The aim is, however, to present and discuss aspects concerning the Prolibras exam in the State of Paraná, specifically. We depart from a survey done with the 2007 Prolibras candidates, through a questionnaire aiming at finding out the candidates' profiles, their relationship with the Libras language and their expectations and impressions in relation to the above mentioned exam. It was possible to conclude that nearly all the candidates belong to the field of Education, having had their Libras training mostly within the educational sphere, particularly in special schools and classes. Candidates from both categories - proficiency and translation/interpretation - do not tend to present prior formal professional qualification to work in the intended positions. Because the candidates' aims are almost totally related to their professional performance, we conclude that continuing professional education is the most significant demand for future unfoldings of the Prolibras in the domain of public policies.
