- ItemSistema de numeração decimal: operatividade discente e implicações para o trabalho docente(2004) BRANDT, Celia Finck; CAMARGO, Joseli Almeida; ROSSO Ademir JoseIn this research, primary school students’ comprehension of the Positional Value (PV) present in the Decimal Numeration System (DNS) is investigated, with the objective of identifying the individuals’ understanding of the decimal-based structure and the written representation related to the comprehension of the PV. 137 children were investigated, through written tests in the classroom, observation registers done during test application and interviews carried out later on. The analysis of the information allowed a configuration of the main difficulties and comprehension problems concerning the operation category of Piaget’s theory. It was possible to prove that the investigated children say names of numbers in a correct sequence, they associate those names to the quantities, and they solve addition and subtraction operations with the use of standardized algorithms. But the arguments used by the children to justify their performances reveal that they do not understand the SDN as a whole.
