From this, some of the problems that universities, and particularly academics, need to face today are outlined. It also defines some challenges to be faced with regard to the political, social, academic and the need to have a strategy to overcome them based on a fundamental axis: innovation. Finally, we present some ideas about regional convergence as a space for thinking about innovative policies that allow us to overcome current problems and challenges in Latin American universities.
