    O jugamento valorativo em John Dewey

    Taking as a starting point the centrality of valuations in the philosophical, anthropological, psychological and educational field, this article elucidates John Dewey's conceptions regarding the elaboration of a theory of values. The American philosopher takes a stand against the antinomy between science and value judgments, the establishment of dogmatic and a priori values, determined on a metaphysical plane, outside the contingencies of social life, and points to the possibility of a scientific treatment of value judgment , a theme that is fundamental in Deweyan thought that links democracy and education. Through the analysis of four works by John Dewey, the article clarifies the author's view about the nature of value judgment and valuation as a method that helps decision-making processes.
