- ItemOs saberes docentes de professores da educação de jovens e adultos indígenas(2019) SILVA, Maria Alda Tranquelino da; SILVA, Eduardo Jorge Lopes daThis article is an excerpt of research carried out at the Master's level by the Graduate Program in Education at the Federal University of Paraíba. The objective was to learn how teachers from the Potiguara ethnic group, from Baía da Traição, North Coast of Paraíba, build their teaching knowledge to act in the modality of indigenous youth and adult education (EJA) and identify how this knowledge is mobilized in their pedagogical practice. As this is a research with a qualitative approach, we resorted to the ethnography of school practice (ANDRÉ, 2005) and documental analysis. As procedures for data collection, the following techniques were used: semi-structured interview and participant observation. The collected data were worked based on the Content Analysis technique, recommended by Bardin (2011). Thus, it was possible to verify, from the teachers' reports, several training spaces that contribute to the construction of teaching knowledge: the contact with indigenous leaders, with the elders who keep history alive, visits to sacred places and circles of dialogues with teachers promoted by the school. These spaces encourage reflection on the knowledge built in the daily life of the school and keep alive the culture, identity and indigenous tradition of the Potiguara peoples. Despite this, it is still necessary to adopt initial and continuing education policies for teachers in Potiguara, in order to be able to offer higher quality school education for indigenous youth and adults.
