Describes an experience of management by processes, conducted in 2009 in the Embrapa Library System (SEB), in which the visibility of the specialized library was questioned in the face of Internet features. Makes a brief mention to the library’s legacy, defending that the visibility issue can be related with the conceptual construction of the library as a book keeper, at the expense of its function in the current information networks. It was based on the Five Laws of Librarianship (CLBs) to identify the segments of the process developed in the library. It was used the Management by Process methodology - AMP EMBRAPA - to evaluate and indicate processes to be improved at the institution. It presented a proposal for the improvements to the process of knowledge organization and information retrieval, concluding that the library’s visibility is conditioned to the recognition that the services and the information are available on the network, but all of the necessary processes for said availability are made for people in the library as a located physical space.
