    Launched in 2009 by the World Bank in co-edition with Mayol Edições SA, the book The Challenge of Establishing World-Class Universities, authored by Jamil Salmi, has become one of the main reference works for all those interested in understanding the phenomenon of the emergence and expansion of the so-called UCM (World Class Universities). However, ten years have passed since its publication and it is surprising that there is not even a record of a review of the book in question in any Brazilian academic journal, perhaps due to the fact that studies on world-class universities and the expansion of academic rankings if it is still an emerging field, a reflection of that, recently, in 2017, the Brazilian Research Network on Rankings, Indexes and Classification Tables in Higher Education (REDE RANKINTACS) was created. With versions in English, French, Chinese and Spanish, the book now reviewed in its English version, has as main objective to show governments and university managers the challenges, paths and strategies for the reform of the higher education system, with the objective of achieve excellence in teaching and transform, if feasible, their institutions into UCM.
