- ItemO conhecimento moral como um objetivo para a educação: John Dewey(2007) HANSEN, David T.Other then what usually accepted about Dewey, especially in Brazil, in this paper David Hansen argues that John Dewey was a life-long, fervent supporter of the teaching of academic subjects. For Dewey every teacher should have at her or his finger-tips a mastery of the subject under consideration. However, Dewey's view of the knowledge education should generate encompasses more than a fusion of facts and ways of inquering and thinking. Hansen argues that education should fuel what he calls "moral knowledge". Hansen explains how moral knowledge fuses technical know-how with social consciousness.

Every curriculum and every mode of instruction embodies a judgment that this is important to learn, and this is the way to teach it. Thus, the inevitable presence of values in all educational work raises the question about which values should be given priority. In this article, I would like to experiment with a cosmopolitan answer to such a question. A cosmopolitan education takes us to a root meaning of the term cosmos: it is an education oriented towards a harmonious and interconnected world. To elucidate this perspective, I sketch a philosophical and historical context for it and then outline several possible features.
